Dr Jing Zhang
Dr Jing is a compassionate and evidence-based Speech Pathologist providing assessments, reports and therapy across clinic, school, rehabilitation, community and home settings. With a strong research and lecturing background and prior experience as a Special Needs Education Assistant, Jing brings strong analytical skills and practical classroom insight to collaborative, multidisciplinary practice.
Jing conducts assessments in language, literacy, speech, phonology, dysfluency/stuttering, oral motor function, mealtime management, cognitive-communication skills, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), including AAC device trials. She provides professional reports and functional recommendations that support integration of strategies into everyday routines. Her therapy approach is strengths-based, individualised and functional. Jing supports participants with language delays and disorders, Gestalt Language Processing (GLP), speech sound disorders, literacy difficulties (including Sounds-Write Program), dysfluency/stuttering (including Lidcombe Program), social communication challenges and mealtime management. She incorporates structured therapy, play-based interventions and functional communication supports as appropriate. Jing collaborates closely with families, schools, Positive Behaviour Support Practitioners, Occupational Therapists, Support Coordinators and
other professionals to promote consistency across settings. Jing has experience working with participants across the lifespan, including young children, adolescents and adults. She has experience working with participants with complex needs, such as participants with autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, Angelman syndrome, cerebral palsy, dyslexia, traumatic brain injury (TBI), aphasia, anxiety, as well as participants from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Jing is experienced with high tech and low-tech AAC systems, such as Liberator Rugged/NovaRugged, Accent, TD Snap and Proloquo2Go, Key Word Signs (KWS) and designs visuals, social stories, communication boards, visual schedules and remnant books to support functional communication. Jing values neurodiversity-affirming practice, culturally responsive practice and is fluent in Mandarin.
Jing is committed to making meaningful, measurable improvements in communication and participation. She adopts a collaborative, respectful and family-centred approach, empowering participants and caregivers to build confidence and independence. She welcomes referrals for NDIS and private participants. She actively contributes to community through volunteering with Chinese school and Scouts. Outside of work, she enjoys badminton, skating, and playing the Liuqin â a Chinese musical instrument.
