Practical Support for Everyday Life

Occupational Therapy for Adults in Perth

RT Speech and Hearing is pleased to offer adult occupational therapy services as part of our expanded allied health team. Occupational therapy (OT) is about enabling people to take part in the daily activities that matter to them; safely, independently, and with confidence.

Whether you are managing a neurological condition, recovering from surgery, navigating life with a disability, or simply finding that everyday tasks have become more difficult with age, an occupational therapist can help you find better, safer ways to do the things you need and want to do.

Our OT services are available to adults across Perth, including NDIS participants, Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) clients, and privately funded clients. Sessions can be conducted in your home, at our Perth practice, or via telehealth.

Occupational Therapy

What is Occupational Therapy?

The word “occupation” in occupational therapy refers not just to paid work, but to everything you do across your day, from personal care and meal preparation, to getting around your community, managing your home, pursuing hobbies, and connecting with others.

An occupational therapist looks at what you want and need to do, identifies where difficulties exist, and works with you to find practical solutions. This might involve recommending assistive equipment, suggesting home modifications, building new skills and strategies, or helping you access funding and supports through the NDIS or other programmes.

At RT Speech and Hearing, our OT services focus entirely on adults. Our Senior Occupational Therapist brings over 25 years of clinical experience across hospital, community, aged care, and disability settings, with the expertise to support clients with a wide range of OT assessment (e.g., Functional Capacity Assessments FCAs, home modifications) and therapy needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a GP referral to see an occupational therapist?

No. You can contact us directly to book a private appointment without a referral. If you are accessing services through NDIS or DVA, the relevant funding body will need OT services included in your plan or package. Our team can help guide you through this.

What is a functional capacity assessment and why might I need one?
A functional capacity assessment is a detailed evaluation of how a condition or disability affects your ability to perform daily tasks. It provides important evidence for NDIS planning, funding applications, and decisions about the level of support you need. Our Senior OT has extensive experience conducting these assessments across a range of conditions.

Can occupational therapy be covered through the NDIS?
Yes. OT is a recognised support under the NDIS and can typically be funded through Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living in your NDIS plan. Our OT also assists participants in preparing documentation to support assistive technology requests, complete functional capacity assessments (FCAs) and home modification requests.
